![]() ![]() I wouldn't want to have to wait for my mouse to wake up and be usable again after switching to the keyboard to write a semi-lengthy post such as this.Ĩ) If I have to install software, would like to be able to uninstall it and keep any DPI options (Stored profile would be great)Īny mice that miss those marks, please feel feel to mention why it fails to meet my needs so I can throw it out of the running. Quickly going into a sleep state and requiring to be woken up before responding again - very bad. Regular NiMH AA would be perfect - AAA frowned upon as a pair of them will almost always have a lower mah rating than a single AA. Battery life should at least exceed 24h of use. So my best option, seems to be to ask people who've used various mice as get their firsthand knowledge of the products out there.Īny recommendations that fit these criteria would also be appreciated:Ģ) Scroll wheel with a fairly high impedance to moving (and will lock into positions)ģ) High durability design, I don't want the buttons wearing out in a year.ĥ) High DPI - should be able to cross two 2560x1600 monitors within a few inches of movement w/o skipping any pixels or using acceleration.Ħ) Must work on surfaces such as black cloth.ħ) Wireless is ideal, but will consider wired mice as well (extra points for dual wireless / data over wired operation). Very few mice manufactures will list the weight of their mice, and almost none mention how the scroll-wheel operates or any limitation of the surface you can use their mice on. ![]() Yesterday I went to Fry's to see if I could check out the scroll-wheel and weight of many mice first hand, but they had none on display and places like Office Depot will generally only carry Logitech, Microsoft, and random small travel mice. New versions of SetPoint also cause problems with using the back button to key up in Ventrilo. SetPoint will reset your DPI setting to a minimum if you uninstall it. SetPoint will cause scrolls speeds to vary (attempting to be too smart for it's own good and changes stuff on an application basis, but fails to properly detect focus at times). Probably the worst problem with the Performance MX is their SetPoint software. Also, I've yet to find a real good flexible lightweight micro-USB cord if I felt the need to leave it wired/charging. However, I've already replaced one Performance MX from the right mouse button wearing out and giving me errant double-clicks or releasing during a drag operation and am hesitant to invest in more of these mice if they use low quality switches like that (primary button switches wearing out in Logitech mice seems to be common and going back for ages). ![]() Also, with the Hyper-scroll disabled and the mouse-wheel in ratcheted mode, I don't often have documents randomly changing view-port position or changing my weapons in the middle of an FPS battle like I get with the Sidewinder from its relatively free scroll-wheel. With the battery I have installed, this mouse weighs in at 178g if I remember correctly and I absolutely love that heft. More recently, I've mainly been using the Logitech Performance MX. Also, when going to the system this mouse is on after primarily using other heavier mice - the lightness of it is now awkward to me. In addition to that, the scroll wheel is absolutely way too sensitive for me and will frequently send small scroll messages when otherwise just moving the mouse. While my Microsoft Sidewinder x8 has some wonderful design decisions, such as the thin-flexible magnetically connected charge cable, mine has decided to no longer recharge batteries and be very picky/require full charged batteries to work properly. ![]() More recently however I've used MS BlueTrack and Logitech Darkfield mice to ensure this was not an issue. In the past, I've used many optical mice and a lot of the older/cheaper ones worked poorly on dark surfaces and I ended up using a sheet of white paper on top of any mouse pad I was using. I'm primarily needing large, heavy, right-handed mice with high DPI and a quality build and a reliable scroll wheel that will work on dark surfaces. Hello, I'm looking to get a couple more mice and would appreciate any recommendations from the TS community as many likely are using some higher-end gaming marketed mice. ![]()
